Grantly, Henry

The favorite son of the Archdeacon. After service as a major in India, where he received the Victoria Cross, and after the death of his wife, he retired with his daughter Edith to Cosby Lodge, near Plumstead. There he fell in love with Grace Crawley and, overcoming the objections of the Archdeacon, married her.

In Did He Steal It?, represented by Captain Charles Oakley, the son of Mrs. Goshawk. His part in the play, however, is identical with that in the scenes dealing with the check Mr. Crawley is supposed to have stolen in The Last Chronicle of Barset.
