Leave a Gift in your Will

While many charities focus on Free Will Writing Month in October, the Trollope Society offers a free Will writing service all year round. Through our partnership with Free Wills, you can create your free, legally-binding Will in just fifteen minutes.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you can help us continue promoting the study and enjoyment of Anthony Trollope’s life and works, ensuring his legacy is enjoyed by future generations. In An Autobiography, Trollope wrote that he thought that Barchester Towers would be ‘read for perhaps a quarter of a century’. Yet more than two hundred years after his birth, we are still reading Trollope’s novels.

The Trollope Society works tirelessly to introduce Trollope to new readers and bring together those who value his work. Run by a team of dedicated volunteers, our resources are stretched, and the demands of operating the Society are significant. We have reached tens of thousands of people through our website, campaigns, events, and publications; but to continue this important work, we need your support.

Barchester Towers has become one of those novels which do not die quite at once, which live and are read for perhaps a quarter of a century.

By making a Will you can ensure that your wishes, and the people and causes you care about, are provided for. After providing for your family and friends remembering the Trollope Society in your Will means that we will be able to carry on the work of promoting the reading, study and enjoyment of the works of Anthony Trollope.

How your gift helps

Changing an existing Will

A codicil is a simple way of changing an existing Will by adding an instruction to it. You can add a gift to the Trollope Society to your Will by using the codicil form below.

Codicils are for simple changes to Wills. For anything more complex, or to leave a percentage of your estate, it is advisable to check with your solicitor.

Instructions on completing your codicil

  1. Make it clear that this codicil relates to your most recent Will.
  2. You will need two witnesses, both will have to be present when you sign and then each of them signs. Remember, your executor, your executor’s spouse, a beneficiary of your Will or their spouse cannot act as witnesses.
  3. Once completed, your codicil needs to be kept together with your Will, but not attached to it, in a safe place. You and anyone else who holds a copy of your Will should also have a copy of the codicil.
