Registration and information
Cambridge has a Magdalene College and Oxford has a Magdalen College. It’s worth noting should you need to ask directions that the Cambridge College is pronounced “Maudlyn”!
Arriving at Magdalene College
All events on the main campus take place on the right hand side of the campus on Magdalene Street. There is no need to cross Magdalene Street for anything (other than to sneak a look!).
Some delegates will be gathering at the Arundel House Hotel before the Conference starts, which is a further 3-4 minute walk along Chesterton Road on the same side of the road. There is a restaurant/bar downstairs at the hotel and everyone is welcome to join us there should you arrive at the College before 2pm.
Residential Delegates
Once you get to the College on Friday 27 March, the first essential place to go to is The Porters’ Lodge, Magdalene Street, Cambridge CB3 0AG. The Porter’s Lodge is on the right hand side of the street looking north. There you will need to sign in and collect your key card. This can be done from 12.00 onwards but please note that although you will be able to collect your key card from 12 noon, it will not activate until 2pm so please do not attempt to gain access to the conference centre or your accommodation until 2pm. Once your keycard has activated, it will gain you access to the conference centre, your bedroom and the gates to the main campus (which is through a gate opposite to Cripps Court on the other side of the road).
When you have signed in at the Porters’ Lodge, you need to go on foot (about 4 minutes walk) to the Conference Centre and accommodation. This is in Cripps Court, Chesterton Road, Cambridge CB4 3AD. To find this, turn right out of the Porters’ Lodge and walk a little way up Magdalene Street to a road junction. Turn right on to Chesterton Road. Cripps Court is on the left-hand side, just after Gaynor Avenue (not shown on map). The gates on the road open automatically during the day so you will not need your keycard for this gate. If you go out on Friday evening and arrive back very late and the gates are locked, your keycard will unlock them.
Accommodation for residential delegates
Bedrooms at the college will be equipped with bedding, towels, kettle/tea/coffee (although no hairdryer).
Breakfast on Saturday morning will be from 7.30am to 8.30am in the Ramsey Room which is also across the road on the main campus.
Bedrooms on Saturday morning must be vacated by 9am and luggage can be stored in the foyer of the conference centre for the rest of the day.
Non-Residential Delegates
Once you get to the College on Friday 26 March, please make your way to the Conference Centre. This is in Cripps Court, Chesterton Road, Cambridge CB4 3AD. The gates on the road open automatically during the day.
Registration from 2pm
Registration for the conference will be in the foyer of the conference centre and will be from 2pm – please do not arrive before 2pm. There is a room to store your luggage in the foyer. The first session will start promptly at 2.15pm so we strongly recommend that you do not attempt to find your bedroom before the start – there is a 30 minute coffee break at 4.05pm which will give you time to find your bedroom as well as have refreshments.
There is access to the lecture room on the ground floor and on the Gallery level. We will have refreshments and lunch on Saturday in the Gallery on the first floor. There is a lift between the ground and the first floor. There is plenty of space in the Gallery should you wish to relax there between sessions and, depending on the weather, you can also go out into the garden to relax. Toilets are located on both the ground floor and the Gallery level.
Conference Dinner
On Friday evening, the reception will be in the Benson Hall at 7pm and dinner in the Dining Hall at 7.30pm. These are both across the road from the Conference Centre on the main campus. You are very welcome to find your own way there but we will leave the conference centre at 6.45pm and anyone is welcome to walk with us. It is about a 5 minute walk through the College grounds. It will be an informal dinner and the dress code is smart casual.
