Ayala’s Angel follows two orphaned sisters, Ayala and Lucy Dormer, whose lives take very different paths after their father’s death. Ayala dreams of perfect love, while Lucy faces life more practically. Trollope contrasts romance and realism, exploring love, class, and women’s choices in Victorian society with warmth and gentle satire.

Participating in the online Trollope reading group has been one of the few bright spots in the pandemic. I love it, I look forward to it, and I very much hope that the online reading group continues long after the pandemic ends. It combines great literature and global community.
