Members of the Trollope Society are invited to join Professor Dinah Birch on Friday 21st March 2025, at 6pm at The Athenaeum for the launch of Anthony Trollope – A Very Short Introduction. Anthony Trollope was a member of The Athenaeum, making it the perfect setting for this celebration.

Dinah Birch, Emeritus Professor of English Literature at the University of Liverpool, will share insights into her experience of writing this concise guide to Trollope’s life and work for the acclaimed Very Short Introduction series. She will explore Trollope’s current place in the literary world, his central themes, and her long-standing support for the Trollope Society.

Dinah will be joined by Luciana O’Flaherty, Executive Editor of the Very Short Introductions and Oxford World’s Classics series, who will discuss the significance of Anthony Trollope’s works within both series.

Professor Dinah Birch

Dinah Birch is a renowned Victorian literature scholar and has published widely on the work of Anthony Trollope and John Ruskin. She is the General Editor of the Oxford Companion to English Literature and has edited Trollope’s Can You Forgive Her? and The Small House at Allington for Oxford World’s Classics. She writes regularly for the TLS and the LRB, contributes to Sky Arts documentaries, and has served as a judge on the Booker Prize panel.
