Scroope, Mary, Lady

The second wife of the Earl, and much younger than he. Although she knew that Fred Neville had betrayed Kate O’Hara, she still insisted that he should not marry her, and induced the Earl to extract a promise from him to that effect. After his death she became a recluse, accusing herself of having condoned his dishonor and for the advice that indirectly led to his murder. One of the principal characters in An Eye for an Eye.
