His purchase of land earlier leased to Harry Heathcote by the government stirred up enmity between the two men, but they became friends when Medlicot joined forces with Heathcote to put out the fires that threatened to destroy the sheep ranch. He married Kate Daly, Heathcote’s sister-inlaw.
