Macdermot, Euphemia

A tragic figure of strong will combined with ignorance and an aversion to any guidance. Seduced by Myles Ussher, she died in childbirth during her brother Thady‘s trial for the murder of her lover.

"She was a tall, dark girl, with that bold upright, well-poised figure, which is so peculiarly Irish. She walked as if all the blood of the old Irish princes was in her veins.... had large, bright brown eyes, and long, soft, shining dark hair . . and she had a well-formed nose, as ail coming of old families have; and a bright olive complexion" - The Macdermots of Ballycloran
