Lovel, Countess

Josephine Murray, a poor but beautiful and ambitious girl of “the real Murrays,” who, knowing the reputation of the old Earl Lovel, married him for the title. Within a few months he informed her that he had earlier married in Italy, and that she was not legally his wife. The account of her attempt to prove the legitimacy of her daughter Anna and to clear her own name forms the plot of Lady Anna.
