Trollope’s doctors are not an outstanding lot. It may be that his own rugged health brought him into such rare contact with them that his interest in their profession had never been awakened.
His best doctor is, of course, Doctor Thorne, but little is said of bit ability in the sickroom. Dr. Fillgrave at the deathbed of Sir Roger Scatcherd gives a good account of himself, and the august presence of Sir Omicron Pie adds dignity to the last moments of many of the notables.
