North West Reading Group ~ Miss Marijorbanks
–
The North West Reading Group will be meeting to discuss Miss Marijorbanks (from the Carlingford Chronicles) (1865) by Margaret Oliphant, on Thursday 4th February 2027 at 2.00pm. The venue is the Royal Exchange Theatre, St Ann’s Square, Manchester M2 7DH.
In our 2026/27 meetings, we will explore two additional writers whose work engages with many of the same themes found in Trollope’s novels: Margaret Oliphant and Edith Wharton.
Like Trollope, Oliphant was deeply interested in religious communities, provincial towns, and family networks. Both writers were fascinated by the ways in which social structures shape individual lives and influence personal choices.
We will be discussing The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton on Thursday 3rd June 2027.
