North West Reading Group ~ The Man of Property

The North West Reading Group will be meeting to discuss The Man of Property, the first novel in John Galsworthy’s The Forsyte Saga, on Thursday 27th March 2025 at 2.00pm. The venue is the Royal Exchange Theatre, St Ann’s Square, Manchester M2 7DH.

The Man of Property by John Galsworthy, the first novel in The Forsyte Saga, delves into the lives, ambitions, and moral struggles of a wealthy upper-middle-class family in Victorian and Edwardian England. Like Trollope, Galsworthy explores themes of family, inheritance, and social class, offering a sharp critique of society’s materialism and values. Readers of Trollope will appreciate Galsworthy’s keen characterisation, detailed depiction of domestic life, and the complex dynamics between tradition and change, making The Forsyte Saga a compelling read for those who enjoy Trollope’s nuanced storytelling.
