Trollope Society Trip to Brussels & Bruges

We are delighted to invite you to join the Trollope Society Trip to Brussels and Bruges from Friday 29th August to Tuesday 2nd September 2025 to follow in the footsteps of Anthony Trollope, his mother Fanny and the rest of the Trollope family in their visits and residences in Belgium.

Reserve your place

At this stage, we ask that you reserve your place by making a deposit of £100 per person, which will be refundable up to the end of May 2025.

The draft itinerary includes

  • Visit to the oldest cemetery in Bruges where several members of the Trollope family are buried.
  • Visit to the house where the Trollope family lived in Bruges.
  • Visit to Blankenburg to see the site of the duel between Phineas Finn and Lord Chiltern.
  • Seminars on Phineas Finn, The Noble Jilt and Can You Forgive Her?.
  • River boat trip in Bruges.
  • Lecture on the Trollope family in Brussels and Bruges.
  • Lecture on travel and mobility in the 19th century.

We will incorporate free time in both Brussels and Bruges, but if you want to spend more time exploring either or both cities, please bear this in mind when you are making your own travel arrangements. The organisers will be visiting Brussels and Bruges at the end of February and will confirm which nights we are staying in each city in early March.

Meetings, seminars, lectures and free time

Meetings and lectures will held at centrally located hotels in Brussels and Bruges.

Optional activities

Details of further activities such as a formal dinner will be available nearer the time of departure. Participants will be kept up to date by email and details will be available on this page.
