A banker living at Cambridge, and an old friend of Daniel Caldigate. He arranged the details of John Caldigate’s sale of the reversion of the estate and, after John’s return from New South Wales, settled the mortgages. He was devoted to his only daughter, Hester, but was very much in subjection to Hester’s mother, his second wife. His four sons were all successful men, the two eldest partners in the Cambridge bank, and the two youngest, lawyers.
