Win one of 10 copies of Barchester Towers

The Trollope Society will be in Birmingham on Saturday 3 October for the Alliance of Literary Societies Fair, a free day bringing together literary societies from across the country at the Birmingham & Midland Institute.

The Fair is a wonderful opportunity for readers to discover the remarkable range of societies devoted to individual writers and their work. The Trollope Society will have a stand throughout the day, and we are particularly looking forward to introducing Anthony Trollope to people who may know little about him, or who have perhaps always meant to read one of his novels but have never quite known where to begin.

And what better place to begin than Barchester Towers?

To mark the Fair, we are giving away 10 copies of one of Trollope’s best-loved novels in a free online prize draw. The competition is open to everyone aged 16 or over who can provide a UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man delivery address. You do not need to attend the Fair to enter.

Everyone enters in exactly the same way, whether they are visiting us in Birmingham or taking part from home. At the Fair, visitors will be able to scan a QR code at the Trollope Society stand to go straight to the online entry form. If you can’t make it to Birmingham, simply follow the link below to enter online.

Published in 1857, Barchester Towers is the second of Trollope’s six Chronicles of Barsetshire, but you certainly don’t need to have read the first, The Warden, to enjoy it. Funny, accessible and packed with memorable characters, it introduces readers to the world of Barchester and some of Trollope’s most celebrated creations.

For anyone wondering whether Trollope is for them, Barchester Towers is an ideal place to find out. His sharp observations of people, relationships, ambition and social manoeuvring remain wonderfully recognisable today. It is one of the novels we most often recommend to readers encountering Trollope for the first time.

Entering couldn’t be simpler. Complete the online form with your name and email address and confirm that you can provide a UK delivery address if you win. Ten winners will each receive a copy of Barchester Towers.

The prize draw is free to enter and closes at 11.59pm on 31st October 2026. Terms and conditions apply.
