An impoverished young sugar planter, Maurice Cummings, was induced by his energetic and patriotic aunt, Miss Sarah Jack, to run for the House of Assembly in Jamaica. While in Spanish Town he met and won Marion Leslie, and, despite various misunderstandings, Miss Jack succeeded in smoothing the way for their happy marriage.
