The Barchester Chronicles are Anthony Trollope’s much-loved series of witty, gently satirical stories of provincial life set within the fictional cathedral town of Barchester and the surrounding county of Barsetshire. With a focus on the lives, loves and tribulations of the local clergy and rural gentry, the canvas is broad and colourful, with a wonderful set of iconic characters whose lives we become intimately involved in as they grow up, grow old and fall in or out of love and friendship across the years.

Episode 3 – A Gift of Fire
After a lot of proposals made and turned down in Barchester, Miss Dunstable decides to hold a party. Lord Lufton – turned down by Lucy – finally comes back from his fishing trip, unaware that Lucy is now nursing the Vicar’s wife in typhus-ridden Hogglestock.

The Small House at Allington
Episode 1
The arrival of the handsome Adolphus Crosbie causes quite a stir at Allington, especially with Lily Dale, who lives at the Small House due to the benevolence of her rich uncle. Crosbie’s ambitions to marry into high society are in danger of being dashed by the charming Lily, but can a straight-talking country girl ever be enough for him?

Back at the Small House in Allington, Lily Dale devotedly continues to plan their wedding, despite a worrying lack of correspondence from her betrothed.

As Lily Dale fights scarlet fever, Dr Crofts is a frequent visitor at the Small House. His patient, however, is not the only focus of his attentions. In London, Johnny Eames struggles to extricate himself from his tangled romance with Amelia. Meanwhile Crosbie begins to understand just exactly what kind of life he is marrying into as preparations for his wedding with Lady Alexandrina move on apace.
