A wealthy widow, living in Perivale, whose fortune, her friends hoped, would be left to Clara Amedroz, an attentive and obedient niece. The fortune, however, was left to Mrs. Winterfield’s nephew Captain Aylmer, with the understanding that he would marry Clara.
