Mason, Sir Joseph

A wealthy London merchant, owner of Groby Park and of Orley Farm, where he lived. His son Joseph and three daughters of his first marriage were much displeased at his marriage to Mary Johnson, and enraged when a son, Lucius, was born. Since he failed to provide for this youngest son in his will, the child’s mother forged a codicil, leaving the small property at Orley Farm to Lucius.
