Gresham, Mr. (Prime Minister)

A member of the family of Greshams of Greshamsbury. Some commentators imply that Trollope drew his portrait of Mr. Gresham from Mr. Gladstone.

Most prominent in Phineas Finn and Phineas Redux; briefly in The Prime Minister and The Eustace Diamonds

"Said to he the greatest orator in Europe ...a man with no feelings for the past, void of historical association, hardly with memories - living altogether for the future which he is anxious to fashion anew out of the vigour of his own brain" - Phineas Finn
