The heir of his uncle Peter Prosper, the Squire of Buston, who because of his prospects grew up with no profession. In love with Florence Mountjoy, he was in complete disfavor with her mother because he had become innocently involved in the Scarborough plot. His uncle threatened to disown him, but the young lovers were not to he thwarted, and were finally permitted to marry.
